Got an offer and considering joining Shopify as a senior developer. The pay is very high in my region, but I value corporate culture more than pay . In Blind , the review for 90% companies are so bad , so I still wanna give Shopify a chance even if I saw loads of negative reviews . Could anyone tell me the truth ? Be honest please . #shopify #amazon #culture #softwaredevelopersalary #tech TC: 20
Run for the hills
Hi man . Can you kindly explain why lol
Oh where do I start….biggest one for me is that the culture is dead, all of the things Shopify was known for in the work culture is gone. Then we had 2 layoffs and it appears we’re going through a silent layoff now. The team atmosphere is gone, it’s not a call of duty free for all
Interviewed in 2021. I liked the people I spoke to.
Probably not there anymore
Nope. Recruiter is gone. Hiring manager is gone.
What are they offering you OP?
Shackles
@tastydog You actually made me burst out laughing. 😂
Unsure about their culture but i got an offer from them and if you dont join around the time their comp adjustment window opens (which is once every quarter), you will be put on their default base pay, which they must have told you in the verbal offer. You can only change it in the next comp adjustment window. The default base pay is ridiculously low.
Curious whats the default base pay?
Its roughly 65% of the TC they offer you. The rest is default equity.
Also, search for recent posts about shopify. People have mentioned more details about the declining culture and poor policies implementation. I guess i dodged a bullet.
You did Mr Anderson
Shopify has changed a lot. I remember Shopify as a bright nice company. Today it is a toxic piece of shit. Probably it depends on a team.
Amen
how toxic ?
I've never worked in a toxic culture, what are concrete examples of a toxic company? Is it the manager?
Same here . I just could not imagine what toxic looks like
Join Shopify and you won’t need to imagine too hard.
Don’t join Shopify. Run
Trust in the senior leadership (C level and VPs) is pretty low. Directors and managers are stuck in a hard place doing their overlord bidding while trying to appease their reports. Perhaps par for the course these days across tech companies. If you got a really good TC offer coming in, for the foreseeable future, it’s not going to move up much YoY unless the market picks up. So keep that in mind. I personally enjoy my job, teammates, and sympathize with the managers and directors in my sphere. I also understand why Tobi does what he is doing, but he’s definitely not an elegant communicator and so the messaging gets lost. He also shoots from the hip a lot vs planned execution. If you are in a senior position, don’t be married to making roadmaps and plans. They’ll get tossed and you’ll just need to roll with it. The company’s former amazing culture rode on the incredible office experience and meteoric share price. Fully remote is a plus and a con. The company has yet to crack the code to building a great remote culture at scale. However, if you live near an office, things are getting better so you may get the best of both worlds. Once you are able to enrol in flex comp, the ability to allocate the majority of TC to base is a huge pro unlike anywhere else. I only have 10% of my TC allocated to RSUs.
