More than 30 sev2s on an average per week. Managers demanding and squeezing out as much work as they can. At the same time they will gaslight you about deadlines, so that you dont ask for a promo or a raise. Coworkers not sharing information. Onboarding buddy ignoring your questions and then b$tching to your manager that you are not a self-starter. All this for what? Slightly more pay as compared to Amazon retail and putting up 'I WoRk on DistribUted SYstems on LinkedIn'. Like bruh, all you are doing is ops work and bug fixes. Work like a donkey year round, and then get piped cause mandatory quota. No thank you! TC: 250k #aws #cloud #wlb
Lol are you new here?
Ok
Sounds like the same story for high volume service teams. Then there are also teams in AWS that chill more but run the risk of layoffs for not making/saving money 🤷
It’s what it is. If you’re on a team that doesn’t prioritize decreasing ops pain, you are in a bad team and should look to move. Retail was far more affected by recent layoffs. And yes in my experience AWS does seem more respected than retail among software engineers.
Does AWS get paid more? It is all the same HR policies. Better respect on a resume though
Lol aws sounds like hell.
It depends on your team. I've been on a few teams. The AWS team I'm at right now is the least demanding among all my past teams. I get a couple SEV2s in a rotation when I actually get any and I'm working like 5-6 hours a day. I've been ridiculously lazy. I actually want to leave because I can feel my skills decaying from coasting, but I guess it's not the end of the world if I stay a little longer until the job market gets a little better.
Which team is this?

Lol accreate, interned at aws and witnessed my mentor and coworkers online at all hours of the day on call or not But the quality of work is amazing and I learned a lot
If the quality of the work is “amazing” why so many Sev2s?
It’s amazing in terms of learning. If you’re under pressure constantly ur gonna be a diamond with a shit ton of knowledge. Anything I work on these days seems like baby food
Wow 30 sev2s? Sucks for the oncall
