I know it sounds funny but I am on the Dining team and have to work on things like the quantity button for extra cheese. Only employees use this website at lunch hour. I only came here for the money. I have a paper in AI and some experience too. My last job was at Walmart AI. I really want to transfer to an AI team.
Microsoft has a doordash competitor ?
Try networking internally. I'd imagine the bar to talk to someone internally would be lower than if an external person tried to speak with a Microsoft employee.
No harm in short term. Move internally for long term.
You might have access to data on lunch preferences , time at which they order.. Can you run some learning algorithm to display which menu they might pick up next .. You can even feed this back to the kitchen so that they don’t have waste overs.
They can even use this knowledge to apply outside and use AI in the food industry
That sounds so fun. Wish we could change roles. I’m in AI

Grind paper. Do some high quality side projects and contribute to open-sourced ML frameworks. If you have high quality paper on your resume then your job experience isn’t a huge problem Also you can always fit a ML project into your current work. Like making a ML recommendation system for cheese …
