CS student graduating in May with 2 years data science internship experience at Verizon. Just got an offer from IBM for Associate Data Scientist - Distr - Data Technology Transformation Team $110k Base $10k signing bonus 3-6% annual bonus No 401k match NYC Office (remote optional, seems like 15-25% travel) What should I be expecting? Do I have room to negotiate?
Are you sure it’s no 401K match? That’s standard benefits for US employees.
Solid offer for starting
Worth trying to negotiate?
This is “good” but no 401k is shit. You want to start saving early and get some more cash versus taxes. There are ample opportunities at this level that include 401k
What band level is it at IBM? Mind you that your first promotions may not be for at least 2 years. Also I wouldn’t put much faith on the 3-6% anual bonus, we haven’t had GDP in a couple years now, and when we did it was maybe closer to 1% at most.
They didn’t specify a band. The official title is: “Associate Data Scientist - Distribution Market, Business Transformation Services Growth Platform, Data Technology Transformation Service line, and the Cognitive and Analytics Practice.” Can you provide some more details on both promotion timelines as well as bonus structure?
Jeez what is that title 😂
Based on the word “Associate”, I am guessing band 6?
You're not going to get an annual bonus.
Don’t join IBM
OP wondering how is the data science team at Verizon. Any interesting work?

The base and sign on is competitive for NYC.
Worth trying to negotiate?
If you’re willing to get the offer pulled. Everywhere I interviewed at NYC gave 110k as the base number.
