Just got out of the Army after doing 3 years as a logistics officer. I have a major in finance and minor in econ and also about 8 months of sales/leadership/finance experience at a tech startup. I’ve been looking very hard for IB/VC opps in Boston/NYC but it seems I’m stuck in a middle ground: can’t be a first year analyst because I’m too experienced and can’t be a second year analyst because I’m not experienced enough. Bottom line up front, I know that I have stronger intangibles than most analysts my age but my lack of industry experience is definitely hurting me. Any advice?
Yea go for a good MBA school. Then you can get into finance pretty easily from their.
Is this still the case? MBA feels more like a scam. I don’t even care abt it on resumes anymore.
Usually MBA career centers have good relationships with the banks. But other than that, it’s nothing special. But to bridge the experience gap it could help.
Study up on technicals/qualitative questions. Then network your butt off. Make a list of every BB, MM, EB investment bank and email at least one person in each group. You’ll get your foot in the door eventually, but it’ll take some time
