And how do you approach and manage your work? What do you deliver? #netflix

Where have you seen ICs making 800K+? I’ve seen plenty of 350K-600K, but not much higher than that. Perhaps some L8+ external hires could reach 800K
I haven't seen it but I am very sure it's a thing. Especially in cases where someone is a specialist in some area.
Only a leetcode goddess can get that kind of tc as ic
That sounds hot
Not really about Leetcode at that point. At that point you’re in a very senior position, probably not writing too much code, but rather reading RFC, design docs, aligning different teams together — basically impacting multiple orgs.
Why Netflix specifically? Do you expect them to have a unique path?
Netflix pays higher than other tech companies but has a more brutal approach to performance management. Earlier, their base salaries were high but no insurance was provided by the company. So if you have a family, the equation would be different. Not sure now. Personally, I think Netflix is one of the most technically perfect platforms out there. They truly solve hard problems in the realm of : how to deliver higher streaming speeds, intelligent caching of content, automated title skips. This requires expertise in video codecs, networking, ml/vision. They probably have advanced scaling and prod testing frameworks as well. I doubt any auto scaling built by aws would ever serve their needs.
I would actually find a discussion like that much more interesting :) The question was more focused on TC which was a confusing to me. There are a few other companies that go this high (and higher) for an IC and I'd expect the challenges they have to deal with to be similarly complex
Fb discussion is not about TC. Read the post again
800K over? I think you'd easily find in G or F with L7 or above (also in U with Sr. Staff etc). NFLX is still small and most of them are packed 400-600K ranges. They are flat level.
No idea. I imagine they’d need rare and specialized experience and skill. E.g., perhaps key designer of our content delivery network could be worth two normal 400k engineers. I honestly have no idea.
There are engineers paid like that but it's outliner. There are mostly specialists in encoding, security, ML etc. Of course we have some IC directors, but those are very few too.
The H1B salaries are published and the highest paid salary who was an entertainment lawyer on H-1B.
