Asking for a friend, and I'm an intern too so peanut. My friend is looking for the one where he can: 1) Potentially penetrate the trading industry 2) Great brand names for future positions and resume screen 3) Learning opportunities Thanks everyone :o TC: -15000 (due to tuition)
Both are good but 2s has a much better name outside of trading if you want to keep doors open. 2s is also generally viewed to have a "higher bar" if that matters to you. I think both carry equal weight if you want to lateral between trading firms, though personally I'd give a bit of extra weight to 2s, though its probably team dependent. Learning is a mixed bag, its mostly what you make of it. Anecdotally I've heard 2s is somewhat beuracratic, so that may slow down growth, but I'm sure there are plenty of problems to solve at either place. If you want to do more "traditional" HFT, IMC might be a better choice. I believe TS also has a MM arm (TS Securities) but idk how well they perform. so tl;dr for each criteria: (1). Both will give trading shoe ins, possibly slight edge to 2s (2). 2s better brand if you consider its overall clout in and out of trading (better name in tech) (3). Toss up. I'd generally pick 2s without any other information.
basically the same, up to them if they prefer chicago or nyc
Really hope your friend didn’t take 2s lol. 2s is a lower tier firm. Might be better for resume value for tech but that’s it.
The only people who commented here are from trading firms, and 2s is not really "bottom tier...". Its no Jump, JS, or CitSec, but I legitimately think IMC and 2s, for an internship, are roughly equal. IMC isn't exactly a tier 1 firm either. Personally I'd pick a good Unicorn or FAANG over both but thats not what the post is asking.
Maybe I biased cuz I took imc over jump mainly due to liking culture/ppl more but why u say unicorn or fang over both? I’ve interned at a lot of big tech places and pay was just a lot lower for new grads there, like significantly
Penetrate you say?
Well my friend needs to penetrate something either way
