After gaining some common-sense, I tried switching my employer-sponsored default investment fund only to learn that it has a small selection of line-ups. The plan is to open an IRA (no long-term capital gains) over a brokerage account, and choose from S&P 500 Index, and a Bond Market Index Fund There's an ocean of information out there. How do I find one? Anyone who has information off-hand? #personalfinance #investments
You can always choose self directed investment (It is called BrokerageLink in Fidelity) and choose investments yourself whether SPY or QQQ or Vanguard funds or even single equity names like GME or AMC
The best one from my experience is Fidelity. Followed by Schwab. I avoid Vanguard like a plague. Great for buy and hold though. UI is like from the 1990s. It's really good at making you NOT trade (which brings you wealth). If you like pie like investing, there is M1 Finance. As for low cost index funds... all brokerages have them. Almost all index funds also trade as ETFs (basically mutual funds that trade during market hours). For instance, VTSAX (Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund) is the exact same as VTI (an ETF that you can trade anytime during market hours). You can buy VTI in Vanguard or Fidelity or Schwab or Robinhood or anywhere else. Same with similar ETFs like SCHB, SPTM, ITOT (all of them are basically the same products from different companies); of course, the returns long term on all these products will be near identical since the products are all similar. If you are interested in S&P500 particularly, there's IVV, VOO, SPLG. While SPY is most liquid, it has a bit higher fee (all negligible) at 0.09% while the other 3 are 0.03%. Most investors would be better off with VOO. Much of your question can be answered through: https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Three-fund_portfolio
Thank you! You just provided additional dimension to the all-in-one portfolio I was aware of

A Vanguard IRA gives you access to their wide variety of index funds. For example, VFIAX is the S&P500 index (mutual) fund, and VBTLX is the US bond index (mutual) fund. Fidelity is another popular choice, though I don't have direct experience with them.
