Reading Blind I have got the impression AMZN is toxic a.f. However has this translated to a hiring / retention problem? Or too many scape goats still lining up to be part of AMZN? TC: 390K YoE: 12
Blind is an echo chamber. Amazon's bar is pretty low and hires a LOT of people so it's understandable why a significant number of them complain it's too hard.
Ahem.. MS.. bar.. *cough*
We don’t complain it’s too hard. We complain it’s psychopathic
Yes, but it does not matter. As supply will always out pace demand because of immigration - f1 pipeline. People are looking for quick jumps to faang. But that does not mean the quality of those folks would he high, but it really does not matter. As a lot of work needs human intervention, it does not mean it's high value.
By definition work that is needed is high value. That's what value is. Being needed.
Blind exaggerates
Oh do we ?
Yes you do
Blind has a severe selection bias: folks who are content are less likely to be popping in to rage. That certainly doesn't mean there aren't problems (like in any company), just that the voices of the aggrieved should be taken with a grain of salt.
I dunno. Amzn prominently features in Blind shit list.
Well, even when I’m happy, I check blind every now and then to learn what’s happening in Amazon. I learned RTO, pip, performance evaluation here which sounds like a joke lmao
Amazon is a sh*t hole. Nothing more. People who are having a great time there were lucky to have a good manager and good teammates. Every team and manager I had were backstabbers who created issues when there was none just so I’m the one who gets pipped to fill the pip quota. I’m currently in focus and can’t wait to leave this hell. I’ll name and shame when I leave.
In focus? Like in PiP?
Focus is the step before PIP
Amazon has a retention problem yes and all the lack of knowledge that comes with it severely slows the company down. But there is always more desperate applicants either new grad, non-tech company, or 3rd world to keep the hiring pipeline full
Amazon is also a ladder to other FAANGs right
Amzn reaches out to everyone on the planet to join them, even my neighbor’s dog received an interview process invitation. This how they manage to satisfy their hiring quota
🤣🤣
And then either you leave in 3 months or they fire you before 1 yr so you don't get your stock
1. Blind exaggerates 2. Amzn exploits the L1/H1 train
3. Non tech breaking into tech. 4. When nobody else hires. 5. Laziness to LeetCode and leave. 6. Amazon or family life keeps you so busy - no time to prep and change jobs
Both are kinda sorted for Amazon. Hiring : most of the folks from no name companies don’t mind the toxicity due to the brand they get on resume. Retention : once you’re in, you hardly get any time for interview prep so folks tend to stay unless it’s an extreme case.
At this point, Amazon adds negative value to your resume. We had an intro meeting with another team a couple of days back. The team lead of that team said "I was at Amazon for 2 years. But trust me, I am a nice guy". On Google's meme site, it is a very common claim that Google culture is being ruined by the ex-Amazon leadership hires. There's a very high possibility that if you are from Amazon, there will be a slight bias against you.
++ correct Once you're in, you're basically stuck . I've been trying to move out for a year now. It's either always a sev2 situation or project deadlines ( which is portrayed as the end of the world here ) or manager cancelling any possible Wfh or holiday. My mental health has never been more fucked .
People only complain once they are in. The outside folks still die to work at Amazon
lmao.. sure 😂 only desp new grads and simpletons who can't code crave to work for Amazon
come on tell me how great AWS is now 😂 and how you built it with your own hands from scratch
