IIRC sundar has essentially hinted that gplus failing was essentially a good thing for us, it retrospect it has helped Google avoid a lot of the recent social media company scrutiny / problems.

Maybe. However outside it's very normal for big companies to sell or handover all its operations to another competitor so that native companies of that country won't grow our take on that market.
Yeah but that’s irrelevant. Both Meta and Google are American companies operating in mostly the same spaces.
It would be acquisition -> reorg -> layoffs -> keep patterns and intellectual properties -> sell edge product lines to other companies
