Sorry for the wall of text. If you r the only one who cares about your existence and then you are no more, does it make any difference? Is it in anyway immoral to wish u didn’t exist in this condition? A person is a human only if other people acknowledge his/her existence (just acknowledge not even saying “care”). But if there’s no one does it make sense to keep existing as a non-human person? Just like a country is a country only if other countries say it’s a country. Several examples. Just like they ask if a tree falls in the forest and no one knows, does it matter? If suddenly tomorrow you didn’t exist and no one noticed you were gone , would you keep existing and if you would, why? For programmers: a function exists, nothing ever calls that function, except it calls itself, would you not vote to delete the dead code. Similarly, if u r the only one who cares about your existence and then u stop existing, does it make any difference? TC: Doesn’t matter. PS: I am not suicidal, just strongly think it would have been better to not be.
Does a tree make a sound if noone is around to hear it?
Real answer, as a Dev I look at I like this. We as devs are contributing to an virtual ecosystem even if you're presences is public or private. We have impact towards the next generation then eventually generation that are not even tech related. We are literally in a tech renaissance.
And that’s a poor consolation for a person going through life with 0 other humans who care about them.
I mean are we robots responding to you? Do you think you're talking to your alternative personalities? You may not be able to see us but however actually responded to your care at least a bit to spend time typing an answer for you.
I didn't know there was a "wellness" thread
Self worth comes from within , not based on what others think of us.
Self worth is different than the need to not be alone. And it’s a bunch of lies fed to us. What’s someone’s self worth if the r the last person on planet. If u look up definition of “worth” even that’s defined in relation to something else.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I didn't notice you are asking about being alone .. it did not reflect in your topic at least for me. If loneliness is the problem , then it is a different story.
And if you care about yourself, that's all that matters.
your existence mattered to Roku
That's not really what I am talking about.
This is a philosophical question, maybe it's worth it to read into that whole topic of existential stuff
Let me turn it around on you. You're working in tech and probably making decent 🍌 by working there. Have you done anything that can positively affect the life or lives of others-- whether it's your family, friends, or other poor souls who may be down on their luck (homeless, domestic abuse violence, refugees, orphans, etc) I'll start with asking you this first before I go through the philosophical logic sequence
Short answer. Yes. I try to do something everyday. Not that it matters. Just giving (not talking monetarily but emotionally) has its limits.
Give me a couple of examples of what you do everyday
I agree. IMO relationship is what’s really worthy pursuing after in this life. Love is the cure. I found that being compassionate to myself and to others helps.
Everything makes a difference. Ever heard of the butterfly effect? Chaos theory or whatever? Anything good you do even just planting a tree can have a lasting impact for generations.
That really is not much of a motivation to keep going through this lonely drudge.
Find motivation outside of you. You are correct in a sense — it’s a lot harder to have true purpose if your main purpose is simply yourself.
