Let’s take a break from the gloom and doom. This can include your home country, or if you’re a US citizen, another country. The only caveat is once you leave, you can NEVER return. But you will continue to make your US salary. You can live ANYWHERE on that salary. Edit: damn we got a lot of foreign nationals on here. TC: $260K
Lower cost of living counties with free health insurance in Asia/Europe
Is the health insurance free though? I’ve ran the numbers and it’s much cheaper here.
US pays the highest cost for healthcare in the world. Health care is so much cheaper in Asia, like 1/10th of US.
If you can never return, then it is safer to stay on until your retirement. I chose “stay” only because of my children’s education. If I have no children, then I would not stay in the US.
LOL, education through highschool is the worst in the US, especially in California! 😂😂
Data to back your claim?
Dual citizen - I'd leave given I can always make US salary without being in the US. I can live in Portugal or Thailand or anywhere for a lot cheaper
Yep, this is an option in my fantasy world.
Portugal taxes gunna get you big time
Will go chill in Greece ❤️ popping bottles every summer night in Greek islands.
I’ve heard this is actually the way
Nights in the Aegean are different 😊
I already make US salary in India by working fully remote for a US startup (Not Uber and only base is same as equity is paper money). If you have talent and past accolades of working on big projects companies are ready to pay 💰 location does not matter.
How do you find these jobs/places? Most US companies don't even consider candidates without authorization to work in the US
Those most companies you mentioned are generally Big Tech like FAANG. Startups especially in Data and AI spaces need talented engineers and they are okay with fully remote from another country as well because the engineers on H1B in USA generally avoid startups because of risk and layoff factor.
Portugal. One of thr better health care systems and cheaper housing costs so would be easier to save for a rainy day while enjoying life.
I’ve heard about this. What about the Azores islands?
Yup. Same. The thing is if you work remotely the internet is typically satellite so slow and/or jittery. Avg monthly salary is 2K euro (net) for a solution architect and that is a comfortablr salary there.
East Asia is going to be a mess in the next decade due to low birth rates and Chinese expansionism. I'll stay here.
Catalonia or Portugal maybe
crime
That would be cool but worry about island fever
I’d split my time between countries. But not leave the US for good. It would be insane to do so. I am foreigner (green card) but I love the 🇺🇸 USA. After dealing with Swedish apt. Hunting, I see why the us is the best western country. Europe is great to visit, or Airbnb for few months, but living there will expose you to all the local bs. From authorities to dealing with bureaucracy etc. and you realize that the US is a great place to live. (I live in NYC and love it). And your TC here is easily 3x of that of Europe. You can easily afford good health insurance, take large breaks between jobs, and still have much more disposable income that Europeans would dream off. The only thing Europe is unbeatable for charm of the cities and the insane history and historical places that are in every corner of the place.
Where you from originally? I guess not born here.
I am European. Don’t want to give the name of the country (it is a small one), but it is a former communist country, now part of NATO and the west.
Where would leavers go?
Bengaluru. Already companies giving heavy pay. Its called Silicon valley of India.
Yes, but good pay isn’t a factor in this location. You’re working remote for your US company.
