Start it on the side. Quit once your income from the business overtakes your day job income.

I thought of that. The problem is, recruiting requires as much time and effort as does a regular 9 to 5

Oracle not_larry Sep 21, 2019

You shouldn’t be uttering 9 to 5 if you are thinking about starting a business 😃

I don’t. If I did I won’t be asking. I know it’s a leap of faith but at the same time I can’t spend my whole life creating value for others and getting paid peanuts

Some recruiters are a million times more pleasant to work with than the average recruiter. Hopefully you can find some of those to help you. Or you can be one of those yourself

I have worked with an external recruiter in the past to land a job. I understand the challenges candidates face, that is why I want to step in the ring and fix it to the best of my ability

Well good luck! I hope you help lots of people find jobs and fill job openings.

A very similar situation with a recruiter I liked about a year back, whom I helped by giving some coaching, ideas and advice and now she is running all by herself. She was indeed very motivated and after the initial few struggle full days, she bounced back and now flourishing. So.much that sometimes she's far too busy to even meet me, but it makes me feel even more happy for her. Full disclosure - I am not in recruiting but a SDM. DM me and I can share some thoughts.

Really refreshing to know that someone else has been down this road. I’ll DM you

I'm thinking of doing "freelance recruiting" on the side, if that makes sense. Is this even viable and how do I go about it?

Sounds like we compare notes on what we find. You want to chat? I have some ideas

Sure, DM me. Would like to know more

Here is an idea - to help the candidates put together a package. That includes 75 top LC, the 10 HR questions and resume fixes. Reach out to them, help them come up with a timeline and say you are willing to arrange mock technical sessions and hr rounds. For technical ask them to finish interviewing.io mocks and hr may be you can do. Each of the candidates coming out of your service will fetch you more $$$ than a spray and pray attitude that other recruiters take.

Love the idea! Thanks a bunch for the pointers. This is very helpful.

Please sign me up for a free premium package as your first customer. Actively trying to find something in NYC. Most of the recruiters spamming on LinkedIn can increase their conversation rate just by putting together a starter pack - but meh, who’s got the time to think!

Been thinking about this as well for awhile. My wife was a recruiter for awhile (now she is stay at home mom). Market is very saturated but doesn't mean there isn't opportunity for something unique. I've hired external recruiters and know what it takes to get into a big company. You have to really make connections easily, but also pass a bunch of criteria set by HR and procurement. DM me if you want to bounce some ideas of each other.

Nice to hear your wife was in the recruiting business. I understand most recruiters work from their home offices. Is it by choice that your wife is no now in the industry? I’d definitely DM you to pick on your brain and get some advice on how to get my foot into the door

Make sure you don't get greedy and jack up the rates for the companies and pay your clients low. Also be sure to cross industries and departments...for example those who handle HR or Financial systems but are not necessarily tech people

Wonderful suggestion. Having said that, would you be interested to come on board as a partner?

Actually I do. Feel free to DM me
