I am a visually focused product designer who loves the space. I have been at EPAM for 5 months, and in the hiring process they needed to be convinced that I like what I do. Now, 5 months in, I am on my 4th project and only 1 has even been remotely what I do. Everything else has been business strat or similar. That is not what I enjoy, that’s not even what I know. I typically give companies 2 years before looking for something else but I am completely frustrated. I feel like I have actually gotten worse at visual product design since I’ve been here because what I am practicing has nothing to do with products. Do I just have unrealistic expectations? This is my first job in big corp, second in the sphere of product design. #design #interviews #ui/ux #ui/ux
Talk to your RM, rotations are there for a reason. When I was tired on my project, I talked to my RM and a rotation was made. It took some time, because they needed to find a replacement for me before moving me to a different project.
I can’t speak directly to your company but if I was on my 4th project and still not practicing what I thought I was hired to do, I’d raise it to my manager and possibly start looking for other options. No need to make a hasty decision but no reason to stick around and be miserable while stagnating in growth/skills that you’d rather be focusing on
