I want to work on something big. I want to sleep at the office and work 80 hour weeks for something I believe in. I want to make dreams a reality and solve impossible problems. I've worked for startups for years and I'm still searching for this opportunity. Who has one for me?
But... Why?
Because I want to feel like the work I spend my life doing is meaningful. I want to have an opportunity to work on something that shapes the future of humanity. I want to feel as passionate and obsessive about the work I get paid for as the work I do in my free time. I know I have an uncanny ability to focus on things I'm seriously interested in and I want to orient that energy towards building something significant. Instead of wasting my time at no-name companies working on boring software no one will ever use.
What do you believe in?
* The future of humanity in space. * Sustainable energy solutions. * Future medicine and anti-aging technology. * Improving battery tech * Free & open source software * Marine Biology & Environmental Preservation
Isn’t posting on blind the suboptimal way to go about this? Find the best 2-3 companies in each space and see where you can add the most value
To what end?
To obtain satisfaction in my life and the impact that I have left on the world as an individual.
So then build something yourself.
I want to. I will.
Think something big. Then implement it
Check out Argo.
Argo seems very interesting. I've had my eye on Comma.AI as well. Are you hiring for SRE/DevOps/Infrastructure Engineering? Hell, as long as it excited me I would transition to software engineering for the right role. Or pretty much anything else for that matter.
Yes, we’re hiring for all of those roles. It is a fantastic company with an incredibly solid leadership team and awesome partners. Highly recommend!
80 hours are rookie numbers. You gotta pump those numbers up
If I had a reason to I would work all day every day. I've seen myself funnel incredible amounts of time and energy towards personal projects. I want to work for an organization that can evoke this passion. If someone gave me the right opportunity, I would give them all of my time.
Lol he’s making a reference to Wolf of Wall Street
Space, 80 hour weeks, sounds like SpaceX, or Tesla if you want to do batteries. Join either and 80+ won’t be a question.
I'm just waiting for that in. SpaceX or Tesla would be a dream. A cold application can only communicate so much. Especially to an organization that probably receives hundreds or thousands a day.
Not sure about the space front, but I wonder if you can find a battery place (bikes, other cars, independent) other than Tesla. Personally I’d rather work a place where I work 80 / week entirely by choice rather than because I’m required to. That said you might find more people like yourself in an environment where it’s expected, so there’s that.
More specifically what are you looking for? 1.) What stage company? 2.) What level of risk are you willing to take? 3.) What’s your skillset? 4.) If you had to rank your top 3 industries(things you believe in listed above) what would it be?
1) I've worked for everything but a large company at this point. I've worked for Series-A funded startups, small organizations with customers in over 50 countries, and even a DOD contractor. I think I am most comfortable with small organizations (5-20 people), but I think my potential would be more realized in something larger and more established. The financial and growth stage isn't so relevant as long as I can personally continue to fund my lifestyle and save for retirement. Working for a startup would likely let me contribute something more significant to the world, which is a huge plus. 2) Barring anything illegal I would risk pretty much anything for the right opportunity. Granted, the "Right" opportunity in this case would have to be a pretty sigificant match for my goals. 3) Traditionally I have worked in SRE / DevOps / Infrastructure Engineering. I'm a fast learner and an autodidact though. Given something that excites me, I would teach myself whatever is necessary. 4) Aerospace, Sustainable Energy, & Environmental Preservation. In that order. Aerospace is at least 2x more exciting than Sustainable Energy, however.
