My entire career has been in marketing + advertising, B2B + B2C, on the agency side. Most recently I've been the VP of Operations + Strategy for a small agency/startup focused on driving revenue by aligning sales + marketing teams with account-based marketing campaigns. I'm considering my next move and am looking at either continuing with the current approach but as an independent contractor, or transitioning to product marketing. I'm considering product marketing b/c it seems to be similar in approach - bridging the gap between product + marketing and more of a niche role. Is there a need for consultants that can provide the strategy + execution for ABM campaigns? Or more opportunities in product marketing? YOE - 17 TC - $215K #marketing

I would personally consider the flexibility of the consultant route... Freedom to work across industries (to an extent), freedom to set your hours/workload, etc. Product marketing could also be a great option, but it's likely going to be more structured with a more rigidly defined scope. All depends on what you want!
I definitely like the idea of the consultant route more, it’s just scary to go from stability to the unknown! 🙃
