Given the recent developments. Whats your take on this across all industries not just android.
Android will be stuck on Java 8 for next decade
Some companies are already impacted, or at least thinking of an alternative strategy. The ones I have seen are switching to C++
Impacted by what? It's GPL with 6m releases
Switching to cpp is a huge task I doubt many companies will take this route.
People are bailing on Java as a language as it is. A language is a means to an end and nothing more. Java has its benefits and its weaknesses, and there are a ton of alternatives that do just as well.
If you steal be prepared to pay for it
If Oracle wins. Java licensing price would be increased for sure. Oracle would also own Android.
Whole discussion is lacking lots of facts. Most companies have walked away from oracle’s jdk distributions long back after oracle bought Sunmicro systems. What most of the companies uses is a OpenJDK. If you deep dive in that case, you will find it is about little different context but then again “if you”
