Tech execs (VPs) or even GMs/Directors make so much more than their direct reports; it's kind of insane. Do they really bring so much more value? Most of the time, they're outsourcing decision making to principals/seniors who do most of the heavy lifting. Doesn't justify the TC gap.
The dirty secret is that VP is exit level. Lower work than any reports. If something fails, just find a scapegoat to fire. By the time a CEO truly understands the problems, you've already made millions. And even if the CEO wants to fire you, you already have a golden parachute in your contract. The higher up the ladder, the bigger the leech.
Ideally higher the level, higher should have been the accountability. But higher ups are good at politics and finding scapegoat for their failures and leech as much as possible Therefore, in corporate America, higher the level, higher the pay and lesser accountability/stress for failure
Complaining about a TC gap without providing your own TC!?!?!
Cool Thought Divided By High Five, I love your TC nudges specific to each post!
Thanks, someone has to do it

Middle management is the perfect spot to be. Maximize income, minimize workload. Once you move up to Director/VP, you have more responsibilities and work, but also get more pay for it.
Not true. Director level is crushing; have to manage both up and down and do some IC work. VP is much easier stress-wise, as long as you can effectively delegate and manage your time.
Untrue. VP roles carry a wild amount of politics that take up an inordinate amount of time and cause a bizarre amount of stress. Much more so than Director level. Thereโs also a much greater amount of accountability at the VP level+. If the direction youโre setting doesnโt yield optimal results, itโs your neck on the line. Each level has its own flavor of shittiness.
