Here are three stats about how your money is increasingly useless after the most recent inflation report
Saw some online postings for Indeed Japan, how is wlb and the general vibe there? Is career growth significantly different between offices? Comparison with other companies besides comp, like Mercari, G etc? yoe 2 TC 210k #indeed
Wow, you would get that tc in Japan with only 2 yoe? That seems more like a Bay Area tc. Do you know the language? Sorry I can't be more helpful. There's a YouTube channel which goes into detail on this but not regarding indeed specifically. The general consensus is not to work for Japanese companies as they will expect the same wlb as is typical for for Japan. A startup or US company on the other hand is different.
Out of curiousity, what is that YouTube channel?
Dev in Japan I think. I'm moving into swe and am looking to go there.
Can confirm what Uber said. We pay pretty well in comparison to the market in Japan.
How much is the the LTIPs + Bonus proportion in comparison to the base salary that's listed for each position? (Ex. 15M Base + 3M LTIPs/Bonus)?
Depends on the role. At higher levels, LTIPs/RSUs make up a large majority of your comp (60%+). At the early levels, probably 30-40% of TC.
I love Japan! Anime is the best!
Wish you all the best. Indeed is not familiar with the word “growth” especially when it comes to your career and most importantly with their product. They do not have a vision and they gauge their work quarterly without looking far beyond that. Check out their site and let me know if I’m wrong. Lol. I 100% guarantee that you will hate it there coming from FAANG and you will be bored AF!
Heh
Did you ever dig into this, OP? I just got to the offer stage of interviewing with Indeed Tokyo — for a design role, to be clear — and the recruiter set up a call to “talk about compensation expectations.” That’s not surprising in itself. What *was* surprising is the recruiter told me Indeed isn’t including any RSUs in offers for a year, while they “rethink how to handle equity.” To make up for that, there’s a retention bonus at the end of year one... and that’s it. No guarantee of what kind of equity you get after that. I did my best to politely say thanks but no thanks. The hiring manager wants to chat on Zoom tomorrow, but I don’t even know what to say — it’s one thing to move from SF to Tokyo and have your comp adjusted. This is something else entirely. Curious whether you interviewed, and if so, if you were told the same.
Do you know what your compensation would be without the RSU?
I believe the pay ranges are 80-90M yen for a regular (not junior) designer, and 90-120M for a senior designer. That said: they also tried to downlevel me worse than Google Tokyo. I don’t know what to make of this place. The team seemed nice, and if you’re just starting out — or just really, really want to live in Japan — maybe it’d make sense.
Is it for SWE? I thought google Tokyo is not hiring right now due to covid
Were they hiring before covid? I have a feeling there arent many swe positions in Google Tokyo
They seem to be the best paymaster in Tokyo.
