IRS Warns Thousands of Taxpayers They Could Face Jail Time
Being a new dad to a baby girl, trying to figure out choosing between India and US where she can have the best education and upbringing possible. TC: 280K
You can divide education in 2-3 parts Primary in US, secondary till 12th In India then they can go back for Bachelor's/Masters in US or stay back here, based on their choice By the time they complete primary you would be well settled as assuming your RSUs are paying off
You can't be serious!! The culture shock will be huge with shifting here and there.
culture shock !? You should visit international schools when in India I think there base will be perfect only if they finish atleast 10th in India from CBSE or ICSE
Please be specific - 'school education'. Education and upbringing could be great anywhere in the world
Yes. School education. Corrected title. For Higher studies like bachelors and masters, I still have lot of years to decide :)
Those are schools too! What I mean is the education you get by going to a specific 'organization' is what you're looking for. Actual education and upbringing is mostly outside that and can be great anywhere!
India's earlier school education is pressure cooker, here kids enjoy elementary and most of middle school. High school is competitive and it is where US education takes over and kids can do college level courses if they are good. In my view, kids education until tween years years should not be that hard. BTW I have a 11th grader who has been in 3 countries including India and USA. And I am glad that he is getting highschool education in USA. In fact that is the biggest reason I am living here, otherwise at this stage of life, I can live like a king in India. DM me in case you need more info. I see lot of new parents worry too much about elementary schooling, which is not important at all. The idea of earlier education is to develop interest for learning and it should not feel like a race, it will help later help them life-long.
Thanks for sharing! Happy to DM.
May I ask where your kids got the elementary education if in the US?
Don't just consider education as schooling. Think about ethics and moral values that need to be taught to the little one. Usually grandparents play a good role here..
That's a good point. This is why we've been thinking when she gets to 2-3 years old, whether we pack our bags and head off to India.
Choose India only if you want her to become an engineer or a doctor.
India like most of Asia education is heavily based on memorization. A fatal flaw in many professions because it makes them more rigid and less free to think dynamically.
My kids are in USA public primary schools. I found they are getting more fundamental understanding than my nephews. Indian education system primarily focuses on remembering things while USA one is mostly about understanding. My kids know less than indian ones but have better understanding of whatever they know.
Interesting. Do you think it'll be easy for them to move to Indian schools?
No, it is hard for them for 2 reasons. 1. Style of education and 2. Teaching methods, here teachers are soft and let the kids move on their own pace, while in india teachers some what force kids to learn and stay in line with other in classroom. One of my friend moved to india with middle schoolers and their kids always have harsh behaviour issues of teachers
Schools in India suck, especially for girls. Even if you get your kids to international schools, you still gotta protect them from staffers, and on the way back home! Additionally, the pressure of studies destroys the personality of kids. The confidence levels are really low compared to kids taught in the Us( think about it, look around and you’ll know what I mean)
Define “best” because neither have the “best” according to NCEE. http://ncee.org/what-we-do/center-on-international-education-benchmarking/top-performing-countries/
For those who have experienced both the systems, why do you think the US one better? I only studied in India and think my education was good.
High paying opportunities are highly concentrated only for top colleges. Most tier 3 onwards don't get as many opportunities.
That's a good point. The difference in quality between top colleges and the rest is very huge in India.
