I have 1 year of work ex and an okaish GPA plus one research paper in a no name journal. I’m trying to apply for MS in fall22 but worried about my lack of research experience. Should I try writing another research paper or should I focus on other parts of my profile(such as SOP, LORs, GRE etc)? Any suggestion will be highly helpful #google #facebook #amazon #researchscientist #us

There’s professional masters and there’s research based masters. Most ppl confuse between both of them thinking research paper is def needed for MSCS. This isn’t the case Try talking about your VMWare exp and get industry LORs. Reason your “okayish” GPA on your SOP. For GRE, most of them are waiving it, so checkout whether your unis accept it or not. Make sure the programs you are applying to are “professional masters in computer science”. One way to make this out is they are terminal in nature (no provision for pursuing masters thesis). All the best for your applications!
Thank you for the explanation! Means a lot :) I’m actually confused which path to take. As of now I don’t have any interest in doing research but opting for a research based MS can help me in bagging scholarships. Only due to money aspect of it, I feel like applying for research based masters :’/
I get what you are telling. I’ll advise you to score 28+ on speaking on TOEFL, apply to public schools (UCs). If you get a TA from the first sem (it’s allowed for professional masters and ppl with high speaking scores), you can get your tuition waived off. Id suggest you to try that, meanwhile keep your Leetcode sharp! Once you step on US Soil, LC + sys design is all that matters :))
