Doesn’t it anger you about the sad life we live in. All the white collar folks are off to work or manage business. The influencers and gamers be chilling 24/7 streaming and making “content” on YouTube/Twitch/TikTok/Instagram and get paid exorbitant cash for the “views”. Given this precedent, there’s no motivation for an average kid to graduate college, work towards a goal in life anymore. Is this the start of societal decay?
The problem with this mentality is that it assumes that non-traditional careers such as influencers, gamers and streamers aren’t considered “real” work, such as working in the trades or any other profession. Don’t hate the player; hate the game. We (Generation Z and Millennials to a certain extent) looked at our ancestors and the way they broke their backs for peanuts and decided that we wanted more out of life—that’s why you’re seeing the rise of careers such as streaming and professional gaming instead of people heading into the trades. The percentages of “influencers” that make basic money is ridiculously low compared to white collar workers.
Getting the views and making bank on YouTube is harder than you think. It's good that taking such low risks to venture off rather than pursue a formal education is an option. Those children quickly learn within 6 months how saturated YouTube is and unless you really improve yourself exponentially video after video, it becomes a worthless waste of time at which point they should fall back on something else. I think it's a great way for people to fail and learn from their mistakes
Almost every career/skill path has a huge amount of money available for the true top of the profession. Top engineers make serious money, top professors get rich from book deals and speaking gigs, top influences and gamers get rich from content and advertising. You can't extrapolate what it's like to be at the top from what it's like at the bottom though. "Top Influencers make tons of money just sitting around and occasionally posting on instagram" is about as accurate as "top software engineers just need to know how to program for loops"
OP works at SAP and has zero understanding about what being top of anything is like
Use "save the kids and social decay" arguments to hide your jealousy is always cringe to me. I don't know why people keep doing it in hope of gaining sympathy. Before influencer, people were use the same arguments complaining about how sports player, actor made so much money. While social worker and public schools teacher, who do "real work" get pay so little. These type of people will always complain rather than taking a risk like these streamer to make it big. They want zero risk while having the same reward as people took a risk. They fail to understand why these people get so much and what they actually sell. And who their real customers is. They are selling audience eye balls to company making millions of dollars. They make sht load of money because they help rich company to make even more money. That's the open secrets that many W2er fail to understand.
Theres absolutely no jealousy or need for sympathy. Tell me what happens to these careers when big tech falls. Also, what value are these careers adding to the society?
Entertainment is value Probably more valuable than what you do at SAP Because guess what? Entertainment has existed since the beginning of time
Pro and gamers and steamers? Most dont make enough to live on. Might as well choose rock star or movie star as a career. Sure it's possible but the odds are against you.
1% of influencers got lucky. 20% of them busted ass and worked 10,000 hours before they started seeing FTE equivalent money. 50% of them will never make that kind of big money. 29% call themselves ‘content creator’ but all they do is twerk in front of their phones. College degree and SWE job is a structured path. Just follow the path, grind 9-5, get paid. If you want to get paid for chilling at home you gotta take risk and put in 10,000 hours first.
Becoming a medical doctor is also a structured path, are you going to tell me that's easier than becoming a streamer? You think getting a college degree in CS and/or CE, studying and learning the knowledge necessary to make it through interviews, and studying and learning and applying the knowledge necessary to be successful and grow as a software engineer doesn't require "10,000" plus hours? And it's a bunch of hours doing something far more mentally taxing and complex🙄 And even then you're not guaranteed to be successful the software engineer or guaranteed to make good money
Market pays if you create value. That’s the truth in SWE industry as well as influencer culture. SWE requires format training and maybe $200k worth of education before you are deemed fit to apply for a job. Social media has no barriers. It’s an open to all culture. Can you amass 100k followers? If so, you can create value and I (market) will pay you for that. People think it is easy to gain 100k followers. How many of you’ve actually tried it? Come back and reply here after 6 months of hard work when you still only have 600 followers and half of them are your close friends.
Being a successful gamer or influencer is orders of magnitude more difficult than being a SWE and I'm pretty sure content creation is work
Oh gosh. Another inaccurate post. They're difficult for different reasons. You're not comparing apples to apples.. as if becoming a successful streamer is more difficult than creating a new programming language. Or even building a game from scratch, which literally requires knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, physics, plus a bunch of Computer Science and some Computer Engineering knowledge. Part of becoming a successful streamer is luck. That's why it's so hard
Nope, doesn't anger me cause I'm not a hater.. it's not like they're making the money unethically. Except for the ones who are; to those ones I shake my head, but to the rest, I congratulate them

Are you really asserting that gamers and influencers are not smart? Professional gaming is as much strategy as it is game skill. Requires quite a bit of intellect You’ve been indoctrinated into the rat race and believe that’s all there’s to it. 80% of colleges are a scam, get you paid thousands of dollars to have a mediocre life that you hate every living second of
Hahaha I was expecting this one. Nah, their effort to reward ratio is just unparalleled to someone who’s slogging in time 24/7 towards to an ambition in life. Climbing the corporate ladder, growing their business.
Professional gaming is not an ambition? Educate yourself on the topic. Lmfao do you think they are just slacking all day long having fun? They put in hours of training and it’s magnitudes more challenging to be a pro gamer than get into SAP You literally have to be top 0.01%+; top 500+ out of millions of players to succeed as a pro gamer
