If I want to go to the US in a few years by inner company transfer, can I do that with Spotify? For example apply for Spotify Canada next year and then transfer to the US 2 - 3 years later? (Currently EU citizen)
Generally speaking there are two aspects to this. 1. Does the company support internal transfers? 2. Is there an open position in the US when you plan to move? For Example: I work at AWS from Canada, though my team doesn't have ppl in the US. I can however apply internally to other teams within AWS who have an open position in the US. PS: The Visa for an Indian is L1 which can be used for internal transfers. I'm assuming it's the same for EU Citizens as well. All said and done. Make sure you express your desire to the Hiring Manager and HR, just to make sure they don't back down when the time comes while also getting an idea if ur team supports the internal transfer. Hope this helps.
Thank you Wabtec Corp. That already helps. I thought that saying in the application process that I plan to transfer to the US in a year or two would directly disqualify me... Who wants someone on their team (and help them with the immigration process to Canada) if they will just leave anyways...
I'd frame that question in a different way. Like 'How's the policy on internal transfers to another country, specifically US?' Usually Canada and US being in the same timezone makes it an easy yes. But agreed that it can go both ways. Another plan would be, since ur planning on staying in Canada for a while. Apply for a Canadian PR. Become a Citizen. The whole process takes 4-5yrs. Then u can literally get into ANY US company. The visa for Canadian Citizens is easy to sponsor whereas that for a EU Citizen is a Lottery(H1B) Also, internal transfers are iffy coz you get locked to that specific employer. What if you don't like it when u move to the US with this team? You kinda stuck coz for the visa situation.
