So I just finished my on-site with Square for IC6. Pretty cool company, people definitely seem passionate about it. But the tech stack is quite old and “home grown”. They use Ember and host on local servers vs cloud. Regardless, it has a very high ranking on Blind. And people have all sorts of great things to say about its culture. Top knotch engineers and great management. So, I’m wondering, why don’t they move to more modern/widely used technology. And is there anything else I should watch out for. I got an offer from Dropbox for an IC3, which is more feature work vs architecture. And theoretically I would be able to do a lot more from an architectural IC6 role. But I’m wondering if there would be more hurdles in their “home grown” philosophy. Also would love to hear about the Eng culture. Offhand Dropbox seemed more “fun” and upbeat. Square more “serious”. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But I like to be personal friends w/ colleagues. Everyone I interview with has been there for 5+ y as opposed to Dropbox, some folks were a few months. There is a lot of turnover at Dropbox it seems. But also, a bit concerning on the Square side, do folks not bring in new ideas based on industry standards? Anyways, still waiting to see if they’ll give me an offer. But good to do some research beforehand :) would love any insider insight! #square
I consider my team's culture pretty fun and personal. Not only within our team, but across our mini-org that also consists of two sister teams.

Cash App has a more casual culture than Square seller. Younger organization
They do want me on the Square side (which product wise I prefer). They acquired a company recently and I would be working with the director on integrating that product.
