It might kinda stay afloat with some innovation but no one is going to stop going to the grocery store permanently . You are paying a LOT more per item. Picking your grocery is an intimate affair and getting this delivered by a random dude is definitely not sticky behavior - unlike hybrid/remote work which is super sticky due the proven work life, commute and environmental benefits.
It won’t be a 40B business, but it’ll be afloat
Pricing is just one of the issues .. the bigger problem is they are solving a problem that won’t exist soon.
That's not how ipos work. By the time your IPO you must have a sustainable story.
There are some ways they can lower their fees. Like ads on their platform, or maybe open Instacart shop on every corner but who knows 🤷

It was 8b before the pandemic and the growth was on pace to make it 40b company without covid, the pandemic only accelerated the timeline.
After looking at this thread, I’m really surprised many ppl willing to spend hours waiting in line/drive to store than spend extra $10 - $20 to save time, it’s probably lower than the minimum wage ($12/hr), right? Besides, some store discounts (shown on checkout page) will offset the fees, and parking/gas also be a cost to visit store in person.
Because ppl are stupid🤷♂️
I met a higher up in Instacart. He told me the number one reason ic users churn is due to price. Why is this thread surprising?
Shopping and exploring can be fun as well. Moreover not everyone has extra money to spare but has extra hours to spare.
I have stopped going to the grocery store and I hope I never have to go back

Honestly, for someone who uses it a lot, i don't think so. I started using it to avoid going out and because it was a centralized option with a lot of different chains but after the pandemic with their prices i don't see how they stay afloat.
You don't have any "in-store prices" stores in your location?
They completely rely on the relationship with these big box retailers. Unless they have their own brand like Amazon basics or Kirkland signature they cannot survive. Moreover, every retailer is building their own infrastructure using third party driverless cars for delivery. I don't think Instacart, GrubHub, door dash has future
