Doordash : https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/21/doordash-and-albertsons-partner-on-same-day-grocery-delivery.html Uber : https://techcrunch.com/2021/06/21/uber-to-become-the-sole-owner-of-grocery-delivery-startup-cornershop/ What is ic moat. Till now they were the only game in town so all the poor grocers were agreeing to their stupid terms. Now we have at least 3 strong players. Doordash is extremely strong in execution. Bye bye profits and ipo. Just trolling the ic bros 😜😜
DoorDash partnered with the most elite tech company. It’s over.
Instacart’s been napping. Doordash was bound to do this at some point. Instacart on the other hand have no positioning to enter DD’s market
Feel bad for IC employees. Should’ve IPO’d during the pandemic and got that cash. Forget Doordash…No way any company can challenge Albertsons!
That’s actually huge. IPO gonna be weaker for sure
"Getir" is coming big. If they can do what they were doing in EMEA market (delivering groceries under 20 minutes) it is going to be big. They valued $7.5b in the last funding round.
GoPuff already exists in the US, long before Getir, Zapp and the scores of these services popped up in the Europe. But in all cases unit economics suck, and there’s no reason why IC and DD can’t do the same even if to stop competition in the short term
From what I understand, GoPuff’s unit economics are quite strong due to their vertically integrated model. Much more solid approach than just doing delivery
As I was reading this I got a DoorDash notification for 40% off promo with Safeway. DoorDash is partnering with blind on ads. Game over DD will be the winner
Not sure about that. Albertsons has outsourced their last mile delivery from their own website to door dash. Albertsons announced a while ago they were discontinuing their own fleet. So in this case Albertsons picks and door dash delivers from what i can see. Where’s the moat in this? Since Albertsons is very advanced they can in source all of the development. Only a few grocers can do this at the scale a Albertsons, HEB or Kroger can. I think there is a world with a lot of players for many different use cases.
How do you think the next meeting with Costco CEO and Instacart CEO will go. I think instacart gets a significant fraction of their revenue from Costco. Costco obviously wants to own the customer, so they would want to switch out ic with doordash.
On white label all of these grocers own the customer. Even if it’s powered by outsourced technology. We’re comparing apples to oranges. This is not Albertsons coming off of Instacart marketplace. It’s doordash powering their white label delivery. From what I can see Instacart never had the business and Instacart doesn’t seem to do pure 3pl deals like doordash.
I think the only reason Costco stuff is there in Instacart is because Instacart does white label for Costco. With doordash entering the scene, the leverage disappears.
What is white label?
With Instacart trying to make money from ads and screw over the grocers these developments give grocers leverage and they will try to avoid becoming dumb warehouses for instacart.
Doordash is going to win. They were already the strongest in food delivery. But now look who they are partnering with for grocery delivery.
