3.5 YOE, IC5 at Facebook. Current TC is 480k (206 base, rest equity and bonus). Instacart L6 offer - 520k (230 base, rest equity) and a 30k sign on Both roles are infra heavy backend roles (I specialize in a very specific part of backend infra which is necessary for a lot of user facing products) Main tradeoffs * Instacart equity will be converted to RSU in May or June, so if they IPO before that I lose out on the pop * Instacart's refreshers status is unknown atm. Without refreshers my FB TC will catch up in a year or two * FB team is already pretty senior so less headroom for growth, although my skip said that he'll try to push for IC6 by next half (early 2022) in which case my TC should be in the 550-575 range * Instacart HM said that this particular part of their infra is really immature so team will potentially grow 3x in the next 12 months so more room for growth Make my decision for me Blind! #instacart #facebook
Re. Refreshers: We just started a refresher program similar to Google/Facebook which stack, annual and over 4 years. Not sure about the refresher numbers though since this is the first time we are doing this.
That’s great to hear! Is it 100% confirmed?
The policy is confirmed but the details are still confusing since we haven’t actually had any refresher yet. So no one seems to know what a target refresher actually is.
Would you sell all your FB stock and invest the money in Instacart today at their current valuation? If yes, jump. If not, FB is definitely a much safe option. I read immature team with 3x growth as they have way more fires than they can handle and you’ll be left cleaning up for a long time.
I thought about this but there is a nuance around the initial IPO pop which I probably can't be a part of without joining
You can’t sell any of the initial ipo pop for 6 months anyway. Who knows what the status is after 6 months.. joining this close to an IPO is not that beneficial money wise I think, I would stay at fb and get to E6..
Can I DM you for more details on the area you specialize in? Sounds like it has a good future
Go for it
I am out of DMs :( Can u share what u work on?
data infra?
No, worried about being doxxed so DM for more info
Can I DM you to learn more about the backend infra position you work on?
I chose instacart only because its a higher level. At fb, climbing up is difficult. At instacart, climbing up should be easier - meaning when you boomerang back to fb maybe in 3-4 years u can aim for E7
Does instacart allow permanent WFH like Facebook?
HM said their team will be hybrid (2-3 days in office)
Gotcha. Might be another thing to consider, I like the idea of being able to go work from a random place for a month a few times a year.
I don’t have any knowledge about this, but I think it’s unlikely we will IPO before May or June
Thanks! If it's possible can you tell me why you think so?
Just because of rumors in the news that we’re looking for a q4 IPO and the fact that we haven’t announced anything. An IPO is not something that usually happens overnight, it probably takes at least a month after announcing that the S1 form was filled
If you’re happy about your situation at FB, I’d probably stay. The TC difference is not that much, but you’ll have more uncertainty (when will we IPO, what if the stock crashes on IPO like some other companies, what if you don’t like your new manager, etc) and things will probably be a little more chaotic at Instacart. But if you’re looking to jump ship, this seems a good offer! You can probably squeeze a little more in terms of RSUs if you want.
TC difference is not much but a much higher risk high rewqed situation. If FMV on ipo jumps 5x OP will be kicking himself.
5x 😂😳
Do you know the number of shares? Or at what point is it decided? What's the implied share price / valuation? Per EquityZen, at current total share count, a $90 Instacart stock price would mean about 30B valuation. So if you're getting (300k/90) number of shares it's definitely a no brainer.
The new valuation is 39B ($125)
The current preferred price is $125 at a 39B valuation
WTF. You PHD?
