They have us building really bad products and I push back asking to get to the bottom of it. The queries were so bad and the data hadn't been maintained in years. It's a real job security app. We are just supposed to code like glorified receptionist. Yes sir / mam would you like me to write all this code for you to make pop ups jump up each time you click a box, literally happens. Has any one else has stupid encounters like these before? I don't understand why management doesnt support there tech teams to get things done.
The business is paying you for your time. Provide your professional opinion when you think what's being proposed isn't what's best. Get your head out of your ass
Are you an SDE? They are not paying me enough to build bad apps.
Yea, I do backend work. Quit your job if you don't like the work. Plenty of companies out there. No need to make your coworkers look bad because you're unhappy.
Someone is getting PIP
I think so too
Did you insult your manager or push back asking to get to the bottom of it, those aren't the same thing
I insulted by pushing back
Not going to help you
What do you mean @Seimens? In hindsight it doesn't matter regardless of why I pushed back on I am still going to face the consequences for not being inline.
It’s great that none of the other engineers picked up on the issue and hopefully you also proposed a working solution.. so kudos on that. But tread very carefully unless you have a good reputation maintained. I would say proposing new ideas in public/ group meetings and critiquing in team meetings is much better than doing it in 1:1. You might get support of some good engineers or may be attract good attention from your director. Worst case you get fired after a year but hopefully you learnt some new life skill and technical skill that others in your team haven’t learnt even after years of experience
Thanks for the feedback, this was an important learning experience. I will take the consequences in stride and level up.
It’s great that you are passionate about doing the right thing, and you seem to care about the app you are working on. It’s absolutely ok to voice your concerns and call things out; but it’s extremely important how you do it. Being respectful and not burning bridges are the most important lessons to learn in a corporate world. If you just sound like you are whining and complaining, no one will take you seriously even if you are 100% right. Learn to be tactful, communicate your concerns and it’s impact, back it up with data and make a case for it. Yelling and disrespecting others don’t get things done, you will be the only one losing credibility
If you just pushed back, that doesn’t necessarily count as insulting. Respect for pushing back coz of security issues. At the end of the day, if you’re good enough you can always jump ship. However, if you completely went off that’s completely different, as a part of your job is to communicate professionally.
On the bright side, you got a good answer for future behavioral interviews 😄
Good job
