I recently got a full time offer from Intel in Hillsboro, Oregon as a Process and Technologies Engineer. The base pay is 73.4k and then after bonuses it gets up to just above 80k. Is this about the amount expected for a Grade 3 and for a recent grad in the Portland area? Is it worth trying to negotiate for more base pay? Also, what are people's experiences there? I've heard it can be a tough work life balance and I'm just trying to understand whether or not it will be a good experience for me right out of school and if it will set me up for other good jobs in the future. #Intel #recentgrad #salaries
Chances are they’ll offer more signing bonus instead of upping base pay, unless you have a compelling offer from somewhere else.
Hey lif when I got my offer from Intel 2 years ago as an RCG that was the same TC package I got (for CAD Engineer). I tried to negotiate my base pay but HR didn’t budge much. They did give me a 12k signing bonus. WLB depends on your group but it’s pretty balanced if you ask me. My WLB is crap but that’s cause I choose to work extra after regular hours. As long as you get your work done that’s all they care about. As a software engineer I don’t feel like there’s much opportunity for job growth here for me, at least in the dept I’m in (TMG). Many of my colleagues have recently left to other companies and they’re getting paid significantly more. The year to year pay growth is very minimal. Overall I think it’s a decent place to start at for a first job and looks good on the resume and this is a fairly decent TC package for an RCG in Oregon. But in terms of long term job growth this isn’t the place for me. It might be for you though. I would recommend you try to negotiate. Now that I’m part of the interviewing team for my group I realize what a pain it is to find people that you want to hire, so once you’ve gotten that far you have some leverage to negotiate with. We just spent 3 weeks negotiating with a candidate cause we wanted him and are desperate haha
Thanks for the insight. As you negotiated, did you mention a signing bonus at all or was that their response to you trying to increase you're base salary?
That was their response to me trying to increase my base salary. Originally they said they probably couldn’t do anything but then they came back in a few days and offered me the signing bonus
If you have better offer show it to recruiter or HR. Otherwise, take it. Intel is still in 5% of top companies to work for? Question is are you in top 2% of talent pool?
Intel is nowhere close to the top 5% of the companies to work for. What makes you claim that? They pay the lowest tc among all product companies in the bay area. It's a running joke here that people from Intel get lowballed because all recruiters know that their Intel tc is dog shit.
I used to work there and I don’t think your base pay is negotiable. I remember hearing HR has a set salary for given degree but like the other person commented, I would try for sign on bonus but you need something to leverage like another offer otherwise it’s hard for them to justify it too. I had a great experience there but I seem to be the minority. Most people I know felt there wasn’t good work life balance and they weren’t paid enough for the hours they had to work. I guess it depends on what group you join. If it’s directly related to the fab then you may have long hours.
Idk much but worst case work there, LC and apply to other companies
