Hello, How does salary discussion go during Intel interview process? Are they usually upfront or is it like 'you go first'? Long story: I am new to applying west coast tech companies (located in midwest). I just successful finished all the interview process but there was never discussion on the salary topic. I was told that salary discussion happens with HR after interview process is over. Now HR is asking for my salary range/expectation even after I pushed back that I don't have all necessary details (cola, bonus, benefits, etc) and I asked them to provide salary that is being offered for this position. Now HR says that cannot share those details and insist on my salary range to proceed. I have had quite few successful interviews and this feels weird. I am going to say 290k TC in Hillsboro Intel, please let me know if that is within the range or laughable? I have 10 yoe in SAP, masters and current TC 150k in columbus oh. Ps: There is no relocation package. Thanks! #intel #hillsboro #software #salarynegotiation #swe
It depends on the level of the role, Do you know?
No I don't have those details. But current team in Intel doesn't have the expertise that I am bringing. It felt like they are dependent on external vendors and looking to build thier in-house expertise.
Post the link to the req or PM me
With Masters and 10yoe, I'm guessing grade 8. Even in Santa Clara I doubt you will get that salary unless you have a competing offer or you're some rockstar.
I don't have competing offer and not a rockstar 🙄. But they lack expertise that I am bringing. Any suggestion what I can go for?
"I am going to say 290k TC in Hillsboro Intel" hahahahahahahaha, what are you smoking
😁 Glad I gave good laugh.
Ask for it, what do you have to lose? Also 150k TC in Columbus requires to ~220-240 in Hillsboro. Homes are expensive relative to where you come from
You are correct. I would need 220k to break even based on current income for tax, cola, travel to midwest (ext family), child care and moreover I need to account for spouse income lose until new job is found. So I am hoping that additional ~70k would be incentive to switch. Thank you
Intel believes in whole pkg pay, accounts insurance and 401k contribution towards TC. Base and bonus target are numbers expected to be discussed. Relocation is based on miles.
Relocation is based on miles as someone has already pointed. You’ll get a solid relocation. :) I had moved from Ohio to Oregon and pretty much got the max or one below max tier of relocation amount.
For some reason hiring manager said relocation is not included. Do I need to negotiate or is it something changed recently in Intel? Another question, do have positive/negative in lifestyle moving to OR from OH? Probably varies by person but just wondering in general.
I've never heard of no relocation if you are not a local hire. Interns get relocation.
You should ask about what grade level the job is at. If you are looking at a grade 9 position, 250k tc is pretty typical. It appears that the grade level expectations have been diluted by Intel in order to be more competitive in terms of external hiring so definitely get clarity from the hiring manager about what grade the job is at before discussing the salary. Grade 9 compensation breakdown is typically about 165 - 185k base, 50 - 70k bonuses (apb + qpb) and stock of the order of 30 -50k per year.
