Asking for a friend. Hey folks, my friend gave an interview with Intel and recruiter has sent him a link to enter details for background check. They have not given him a verbal offer too. Is it wrong to assume the background check is indeed the first step towards an offer? Is this how it works with intel?
Logically y
They can find his previous salary by doing a background check. He should not agree to a check before accepting an offer. The offer can be conditional on passing the check.
This is for a new grad position so the salary is pretty much fixed. I don’t understand the point of background screen without letting the candidate know its purpose.
unfortunately, it’s not a sign of an offer
Why else would they want to do a background screen if they don’t want to move ahead with the application? Please note interviews are all done including the onsite.
Yes. But don’t take it granted... Intel has recalled offer letter as well. I have heard about couple of my indirect friends, they received an offer letter and later company gave some reason and said sorry we can’t hire you now...
What?? What are the chances?
Unless they have a conditional requirement that you didn't fulfill. People move their families and then offer the recalled... really?
I don’t k ow why you would want to work for Intel right now as a new grad anyways... It’s a sinking ship and you will learn nothing but how to do things the wrong way and politic really well. However, back to your question... Yes, it’s generally one of the final steps. Hiring manager gets sent anything questionable and has to give thumbs up or down, based on a number of things. If all checks out ok and the financials work out alright, then they will likely make a verbal... That was my experience.
You so realize not all teams are the same right?
Pretty sure I said that was how it worked for me, I didn’t state this being any sort of blanket standard for Intel hiring, just what my experience was.
Yes, background check is mandatory for all offers
I am an rcg and few of my friends also had background checks before onsite. I don't understand the logic. Probably they wanted to fill the reqs asap and decided to do this to speed things up. Your friend can probably mail the manager asking about it.
I think they wanna see if they can find any info in your background that can justify lowballing. For example, I don't know if it's true because I've never taken a loan (too poor to buy a house, only buy used cars) but I've heard that if you apply for a loan and disclose your income to the bank, it can show up in your background check.
They will usually do background verification before sending offer letter. They might not even give verbal offer letter till background verification is cleared.
Yep. Or contingent on background check. If they catch a lie like a fake college degree they will instantly terminate. But generally Intel is slow. Just relax. Breathe. Don’t watch the news. See how much better you feel?
