Open Letter From New York State Budget Director Robert Mujica Regarding Amazon Some highlights: 1. "In my 23 years in the State Capitol, three as Budget Director, Amazon was the single greatest economic development opportunity we have had. Amazon chose New York and Virginia after a year-long national competition with 234 cities and states vying for the 25,000-40,000 jobs. For a sense of scale, the next largest economic development project the state has completed was for approximately 1,000 jobs." 2. "The seventy percent of New Yorkers who supported Amazon and now vent their anger also bear responsibility and must learn that the silent majority should not be silent because they can lose to the vocalminority and self-interested politicians." 3. "As the political debate rages in this country, the Governor reminds us of the fact that 'to be a progressive, there must be progress.'" AOC, "Trump paid the Director of Budget to write the letter."
My counter to this would be regardless of truth...there is nothing remotely inaccurate in that letter from what I can tell
Nicely written.
Trickle down never worked. The politics of centrist Democrats is a walking anachronism from a time before the recession.
A rising tide lifts all boats...unless you don’t have a boat, then you drown.
Amazon wasn't kicked out tho, they took their ball and went home because people in the neighborhood wanted to have some meetings. Plus AMZN is hiring just as fast if not faster in NYC.
Yeah, sorry, this is BS. Amazon wasn't kicked out - their fragile egos couldn't take not being welcomed with open arms. They were about to irreparably change Queens financially, but they were unwilling to engage with the community, or play a role in helping chart the future of the services that would have been stressed by their arrival (public schools, transit, etc).
It is unfortunate that you don't get it and instead blaming on Amazon. If you are running a company, you cannot invest billions of $$$ when the local government hostile. AOC's following is only growing and she was vocally opposed. Amazon wants to focus on the business and not standing against a politician.
But they are investing billions. And google is investing even more, just without a BS beauty contest to make a tax break bidding war. NYC still gets the jobs
Pretty ironic that the so-called democratic socialists were the ones opposing this. Actual social democracies have tons to business incentive programs, actually try to court investment, and aim for a workforce of highly paid professionals. American ones are more like Pol-Pot types with their bizzare, 19th century concept of what the laboring class should be.
What an eloquent response to abject stupidity.
