Document sequence of events in the form of an email to your manager. Hey, FYI types. Take brownie or cookies for said intern to the next one on one meeting. Ask if it will help if you appointed a day to day "buddy" to make said individual successful.
I think "appointing a buddy to make said individual successful" could make them feel like they're bombing or ostracize them
