Hi, I’m considering applying to Apple for a research engineer position. My goal is to eventually move to the east coast, but the position I’m applying for is in the west coast. I know from friends in Apple that the group I’m applying for has presence in the east coast as well but the east coast group is not hiring atm. My question to Apple folks is, is relocating from one location to another common? Both teams are supposedly work in the same problem area. #Apple #transfer
Follow up, can I at least do a full interview loop for another team?
Yes and the way it looks is as if you are an external hire.
You get to do a full interview loop, yes. But most likely you’ll skip the phone screen, it’s not a written rule. Usually, first it’s chat with HM then full onsite loop, just like external hire. The worst parts - it’s a lateral move, so same comp. however well you do the interviews. Second, you have to tell your manager before you do the interviews. May be you can have informal HM chat before the notification. So if you fail the interviews you get kicked out, or atleast you get to kiss goodbye to your bonuses and refreshers.
They’re really tough. Comparatively, transfer of location with the same team won’t be a problem if you’re IC4+ but usually most teams at Apple require you to work from office. If you want to change teams, just forget about it, don’t let anyone here fool you.
I heard the same considering changing teams
