What do you mean ?
Vey easy. Lots of attrition in every team So it’s easy to move. But it’s tough to find a actual good team-so most people end up switching 3 teams or so and then leave the company
Very easy for SDE 2s, possible for SDE 1s while less common until you've been at the company at least a year. If you have 1+ years of experience at Amazon it's very straightforward to switch teams since it's easier for the hiring team to check your quality of work and it's something like a couple conversations with the team and a spot check of your work at Amazon.
How do they spot check your current work
For our team it was really simple, each time it went something like this when we had an interested candidate, after an initial conversation between them and our manager to confirm that they seemed to be a great fit: 1. Our manager checked that their last annual review was positive. 2. Our manager reached out to their current manager to learn about what kind of SDE they were, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they were to work with, and whether there were any red flags. Feedback was positive in all cases we saw, with some information that actually helped with finding good project fits for their personalities. 3. We had one team member skim over their code reviews and wiki contributions. This was very brief, just verifying they had code reviews for the period that makes sense and there weren't glaring red flags in what you can skim over within a few minutes. 4. We had a call between them and a couple members of our team and our manager so they could ask detailed questions and we could get to know them better. 5. We scheduled the transfer. In international cases this could take many months due to visa processing time (and was almost impossible in 2020 due to most new visas being frozen, we had to redirect people to non-US teams), for people already in the US it could be weeks or 1-2 months depending on what worked best for them.
