For those of you who have transferred internally from the US to overseas for a long term assignment ( > 1 year ), were you paid in USD or the local currency? Also, did your salary stay the same, increase, or did you take a pay cut? Particularly interested in any of you who were originally based in the Bay before you moved.
USD. Salary stayed the same but there was tax equalization and some housing and tuition (for the kids) allowance.
Tax equalization did not apply to RSUs though, so that more than offset the housing subsidy. At the end of the day my net com was about the same.
It will depend on the company. Whether you work for the parent abroad or work for a subsidiary locally. Also be careful that any RSUs granted abroad will come back to your US accounts once you come back.
Can you give more detail? Is it tricky getting RSUs back to a US account?
Once they vest no. But depending on how theyre structured they might continue vesting abroad. Which is a tax event abroad. Makes things much more complicated.

Local currency. When all the benefits were added up, I was paid about the same.
That's pretty good. Which city did you move to?
