I am an L66 data science manager at Microsoft, and I have hit a ceiling at my current org, and pace of upward mobility is going to be quite slow. So I am seriously considering applying for L7 roles at FAANG or Senior Director at Salesforce, Expedia type of mid size companies. The goal is to get a role to run a large-ish organization and gain that experience. What kind of prep work should I do to get ready? Blind tax ~400k
Yoe brodie?
Happy to point you in DM to a FANG director who does interview prep and mentoring for L6-L8 roles
Can you dm me the name?
You have to DM me. I have limited free chats
Very hard to come into Salesforce at Senior Director. In general going from manager to director at FAANG I just dont see. With your comp L6 sounds like the better level to shoot for.
Microsoft comp is lower than FAANG. And titles are confusing. L66 maps to senior director at Salesforce
Buddy my boss (M1) manager level 1 got a job as a VP of engineering at NewRelic. Seniors in Microsoft are M1 in other companies (their scope match managers scope in startups and mid market companies) Managers -> directors Directors -> VP VP -> CTOs
DM for SAP and anyone else for a referral!
DM for interviewprep
YOE?
There’s a Data science director job opening at Intuit Credit Karma
Can you refer me?
I believe L66 maps to M1/IC6 at Meta. What's the size of your org / are you managing other managers? Overall, Meta is a tough place for Managers right now, so it may be best to level set expectations.
Tough why?
Zuck has been talking about flattening engineering orgs for a while now
