Interview at Google as L4

I just recently received an offer from AWS for SDE1 (still waiting on offer details). I have 1 YOE as a full-stack engineer, plus 3 as a DBA. Spoke with my Google recruiter today and she told me that there's no headcount for L3 at the moment, but I could attempt the L4 interview. It's definitely a bit of a leap based on my current YOE. My worry is that if I don't meet expectations, I'd have a one year cooldown and it would be my second time failing the Google onsite. Even if I did end up getting it, they could still down level me to L3 and I'd be on a waiting list. Should I give it a go, or should I just be happy that I got my Amazon offer and move on? I'm feeling a lot more confident in my interviews this year, but I can always try Google/others later on in my career.

Have you considered Albertsons?

It’s hard to get promoted at Google. Join a startup, go learn something, then come back after 10 years and join Google at L6+

Lol why would you come back to Google after joining a startup?

Don’t see a downside to interviewing personally. If you’re going to accept AWS, 1 year wait on google doesn’t matter. If it’s your first ever google interview I don’t think there are any long term affects on your chances there. Go for L4, don’t accept a downlevel, accept AWS if rejected. You’ll know what they are looking for in a few years if you try Google again.

I failed my Google onsite last year (didn't prep enough), so if I failed again it would be my second time. Not sure how that would impact my future chances.

I see. Not sure if failing 2 makes it hard to get a foot in the door a third time.
