I have been contacted by a recruiter for a Senior software engineering role. I am looking for or at least be interviewed for the Principal Engineering position. I would like to understand how Microsoft recruiters are? How do I negotiate with them for a Principal engineering position? I feel the Senior engineer position is a step down from the current role. However I am interested in working for Microsoft. Any insights on how to negotiate for an interview is highly appreciated Current position: Senior engineering tech lead TC: 320k YOE: 9yr #Microsoft #azure #microsoftcareers#engineering

Only a promotion can make it worth it since they pay 🥜
Are you vp or ED at jpm?
They say it's for Senior software Engineer and give you SE ll. So no way without having a competing offer.
I understand when I reach the offer stage. Having competing offers will help. I don't want to be in a position during the offer that I was not even interviewed for PE position
Sorry to say, they won't interview for PE until and unless you are already in the PE role/equivalent at your current organisation.
You need high level principal to match your tc
Unfortunately the best way to negotiate is to say that you are in the process at other companies for your appropriate level, and tell them kindly that if they put you in for the lower level, the compensation may not be worth it for you. Having other (potential) offers is the best way
