BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
I am L66 SDM at Microsoft. Current TC ~400k YOE ~12.5 I joined Microsoft out of college. Now I am ready to explore opportunities outside of Microsoft. I am starting interview prep right now. Will give it ~3 months before scheduling interviews. I am thinking of focusing on System design, behavioral and leadership. Should I also LeetCode? If yes, then what level (easy/medium/hard)? I think I can manage easy to medium with some prep but will need extensive practice for hard. What other things should I focus on? Any advice from folks on AMZN L7/GOOG L6/FB E6 loop is much appreciated.
How many years of management experience ? Are you looking for EM or SWE roles ?
I have a bit over 5yrs of management experience. Looking for EM roles.
Don't waste time on Leetcode but do practice writing code. System design and behavioral/leadership/people management interviews will be the most important ones.
Why downlevel at goog and fb?
Lookup on levels.fyi was using wrong filter. Appreciate correction. M2 and L7 it is.
Good luck, but Goog L7 is a BIG stretch from MSFT 66. L65@MSFT usually maps to L5@ Google. At L7, you'd typically be managing an org of more 30-50 engineers, sometimes more. In my experience interviewing L6/L7 candidates at Google, I sincerely doubt getting an L7 loop.
Should be m2 and goog l7
L6 is appropriate, L7 at Google would be a stretch.
sounds like you are L6 in Amazon
Why L6? Levels.FYI suggest L7. Also L6 comp is a bit below or similar to my current comp. Why would I go through hassle of interview for same comp which I have today?
just commenting out of ignorance without fully understanding your experience. Is your 5 years EM managing managers? L7 sdm in manager would expect you to be managers of managers.
E6 at best but many E5 with that experience in FB
Is E6 a EM or IC role? Or can it be both?
Both
For EM roles there shouldn’t be too much coding involved, leecode medium should be enough. Focus on system design and your previous working experience.
Why leave now ? To Boost Your comp
Getting bored with work I have been doing recently. Haven’t seen any thing good internally. Compensation is certainly a big factor as well.
