Hello I recently completed my phd in computational biology. I have an on-site interview at Merck. I have prepared but am still nervous. Can recent interviewees help me with what was asked and expectation at the interview please. I am on a student visa and have to get a job soon else visa expires. Please help me. I am very nervous. #pharma #pharmaceutical #merck #interview
Can't you get a green card from marriage with citizen? Assuming your husband is a citizen.
He’s not a citizen
In most cases, when interviewing PhD graduates (fresh), most companies take a simple approach. 1. Ask mostly about their work in PhD 2. What kind of techniques they used 3. Go by resume - ask anything about what have been put in there (this is true for any job) 4. For computational jobs, they will ask about breadth of knowledge about tools I haven’t interviewed at Merck- but this has been my experience in general (I have interviewed PhD grads as well - we were provided similar guidelines)
The goal is not to understand whether they already know what to do - but are they capable of learning & doing (and having some background/training on the topic always helps)
Thanks a lot for those points
I have hired for those roles. It will be fine, they won’t give you a code test or anything. If you used a method know how the method works and defend why you choose to use it.
Also prepare for behavioral questions, including those about mentorship and dealing with ambiguity
How do you have an Apple account if you are a student?
Oh I posted from my husband’s account. He had the app. Sorry for the confusion
