I have few questions as a Canadian with no US work visa 1. Is showing US address recommended in the resume 2. Will HR ask for current visa status during initial screening? If so, is lying that I have TN visa a problem? Because I’m thinking TN is tied to a specific company anyway so we have to apply new TN visa when changing employers. So they may not be interested in reviewing my visa status? 3. Do you think I will get screwed in background verification? As I work in Canada not US :) Any tips please… TC 300K #tech #apple #meta #google #amazon #microsoft
Lol nobody already has a TN visa before going into the US. You get a job offer, book a flight to the US and they grant you TN visa when you go through the border.
Exactly....if you say you already have one, that means you have a job already. Well do you? What do you get out of lying if you have a job or not
Getting call from US employer with Canadian address has very slim chance. Have been trying. TN visa needs employer sponsorship letter. You can’t just take offer letter and go to border and get it. And most employers are not aware of TN as much and not all are willing to provide such letter especially for someone interviewing from outside US. Let’s not talk about morality and integrity. I’m exploring options. If you have a better way let me know.
Why do you want to work in the US as a Canadian?
Money and weather
You just need an offer letter for TN. You don’t need sponsor. Sponsor means company will pay and take care of everything. You can apply yourself once you get an offer even from startups. As long as the title and function adheres to TN policy.
The only difference is these days if you are just showing up at the airport, there’s a good chance a CBP officer will just send you back. Things are not as easy as they were 10 years back. It’s always better to have your company get approval in Premium and you show up with an approved petition.
Yes agreed. Used to be super simple 10min border trip and approved.
All 3 questions ties to your integrity. Are you just waiting for people to validate your thoughts?
Yes. I haven’t given this a shot. But wanted to know if anyone did it or if there is a better way.
