I am an ex-employee at Amazon, and been trying to search for a job long time. I was able to land an interview at Airbnb finally and had it scheduled today. I prepared so hard for it but unfortunately out of nervousness, I was blank and kept running in circles with the coding question. At first, the video call option in Hackerrank was not working and we were trying to connect in Zoom call and the starting few minutes went by in this rush, then once we got started, we had to take things fast cause the first minutes was already lost and this made me more nervous. I wish I could have done it better cause I feel it didn't represent my skills well. It was not like the question was hard, I knew how to solve and I have done it many times before but with the tense situation, it didn't go well as planned. I regret it so much and wish I could go back in time. Is there any chance that I can redo an interview at Airbnb or if not, is there a limit/blockers like I can't take any interview at Airbnbs for next 6 months or 1 year cause I just had one? #tech #airbnb #interview #softwareengineer
Do you mind sharing your yoe?
Happens with me as well many times in interviews. I am usually able to solve Leetcode hard questions in 20 minutes when solving questions at my own. But sometimes get stuck in interviews and my mind is blank. Same with design . I am leading design reviews at org level in current company, but i do find myself blank sometimes in interviews I would suggest to keep multiple options open and don’t lock yourself to one company/interview. Whenever I try to switch companies, i shortlist 5 companies, and usually I am able to clear 3/5 interviews. My switches so far: Amazon(L5) -> Meta (L5) -> Amazon (L6) -> Uber (5b) Yoe: 7
Thank you so much for the guidance. It is really hard to find jobs these days because many companies stopped hiring, and things are moving very slow in other places because of the recession. Is there anything that you suggest that can help my job searching and interviewing process become better? I am currently looking for fully remote roles..
Definitely this. I set up four interviews in a week awhile back before my current gig. It kept me from freaking about the one interview since I knew there were other options.
Send an email to your recruiter, try to explain why you were not able to best represent yourself. But realistically you should move on, keep applying and preparing
Just move on
Did they give you another chance?
Can’t hurt to tell your interview team you had a bad case of nerves and would like another shot.
Thank you! Will give it a shot for sure
