Interviewing with a Series A ($7MM) start-up with 20 employees but it's 8 years old and most of the employees are 50 years old +. Is this a red flag? Lots of experience at IBM in the ranks and it's ran by a serial entrepreneur who makes and sells SaaS companies. #tech #startup #interview #forecasting
Lol…what
50+ isn't a red flag. 8 yrs old startup with only series A is a potential redflag. It's either they haven't found PMF or are ok with slow growth.
Thanks for the insight - honestly trying to figure out that part. Can ask if they're okay with slow growth, good question 🙌
In case of slow growth, employees usually get the short end of the stick. Good luck!
If you interview pls share your experience ,really keen in knowing how does 50+ techies go about interview
It's been really laid back - which is kind of been odd even with tech round...
Sounds like a good startup. I really like to work with well experienced devs. Care to share the startup details? Can dm.
I would not join a company that is 8 years old and only series A with 7m funding
Maybe they are profitable and didn’t need more money which comes with dilution to founders. Check out mail chimp: they never took money and sold for $$$$$
Its possible that the serial entrepreneur had enough money to sufficiently capitalize the business
Company name?
I'll dm you
Commented above. Pls DM me too. thanks!
The red flag is the IBMers, not their age.
That's some lazy prejudice right there. At best this is a yellow flag.
I have been at a company being the only person under 30, it is NOT fun. No one gets your references, everyone views you as a child. Stay away.
This is more for the cultural reason though. It could be important but not a deal breaker, is it?
I guess it depends on what you want out of a job. If you don’t want to make any friends then it wouldn’t be a dealbreaker.
How do you know their age? What if they’re actually all young but they just all look old because the company makes you work so much lol
This is called ageism. In this case, you the candidate are doing that, not the company.
I'm seriously asking if it's a red flag or fine - I'm unfamiliar with smaller start ups so probably should've rephrased and asked if this is typical? Thanks for the comment 👍
OP you still don’t see it do you?
