I'm the mentor for the intern on our team and I'm frankly intimidated. He has interned at Amazon before. He just seems to have everything in order, is ahead on whatever tasks we've assigned him so far for him to familiarize himself with the project and the environment. He sounds and seems so put together, talks with such command. He started documenting everything that he's working on without anybody asking him to. Feels like he's going to be done with the project within no time and we won't know what to do with him. I am nearly a decade older than he is and was nothing like this at that age for sure. Pip him and hire a subpar substitute who will make you look competent 😈
I have been summoned
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Only in Amazon, you’d be intimidated by such a person. In good cultures, we would say ‘impressed’ by the intern.
Because only in Amazon would they PIP you and give your full workload to an intern for no increase in pay or title change. OP knows what’s up
Ah well, I don't mean it in a negative way at all. It's just the next stage of being impressed.
He might be terrified of how bad the labor market is rn. He’s probably really desperate for a return offer.
^ he'll chill out once he gets the return offer
Lots of ppl got return offers that got axed at the higher exec levels with nothing managers could do about it. Even with the highest internship ratings earned

The number of comments assuming OP is a guy!
seems like a you problem
There is no problem. :)
Unfortunately Amazon really is like this. Stack ranking pits employees against one another.
Tune up the ambiguity.
Spoken like a true peer
Peak Amazon behaviour.
motivation for me as an undergrad
Good luck!
thank you!
Let him know how awesome he is and try to learn and ask if he has any ideas on what he likes to do in the team etc… and encourage him to do better. Or are you the intern and thinking too highly of yourself?!
I suspect it's the latter.
ooh, good plot twist.
