So, I recently had an interview with MailChimp for a swe III position. I didn't move to the final round. After speaking with the HM the recruiter sent me an email saying that after some careful consideration they decided to move forward with other candidates. But they have flagged my profile and will reach out when a position that better suits me opens up. I am curious to know if it's MailChimp's way of letting someone down easy or do they usually mean it (for folks who might have had a similar experience).
That's just your run of the mill rejection message. We might never know the real reason. I was part of an interview panel recently and we rejected a few candidates; 1 was too junior, 1 was taking his career to another direction, and 1 was more of a manager. There was 1 candidate who was an absolute rock star and would a great fit in the team. Hope he accepted the offer.
Hmm yeah makes sense. . I have seen my fair share of rejection messages lately. All of them are quite generic. Lol this time the message had the same overall meaning but was worded differently. So, I got curious to know if MailChimp's rejection messages use that template or not
Yeah it sounds standardized but I’m not totally sure. Whats your YOE and location if you dont mind? I applied to that position and havent even heard back
I have around 4.5+ YoE. 2 in R&D and 2.5+ in a faang as a swe.
No, they really mean it. When a candidate has really good skills and think you would be a good fit with the company but just not for that team, they will provide your info to another manager that has an opening. I'm a hiring manager and have hired engineers that were not a good fit for the other team because either too junior or not expert on a particular technical skill and vice versa with my peers.
That's good to know. I did find the message a bit different as I mentioned already so was curious. Thanks for your reply. Appreciate it
That’s just mean - why you giving him hope?
Roles are team based so if someone else fit more closely for the job they get the job. There can be many people clearing the interview loop. But the one closest to the required skill set and job skill needed gets the job if other factors remain constant
Similar thing happened to me with Rockstars, but I know why, they don’t pay what I wanted.
