I’m creating a matchmaking app for gamers to find friends, teammates and clans. (But I’m non-technical) I sold membership rewards cards to our existing community. We raised enough funds to outsource the MVP (built with React Native and Firebase). I have a strong core community of a few thousand and have the alpha version of the app ready to launch. Our CMO is a viral marketing expert who spearheaded TikTok’s global expansion in 2019 and 2020. And I’m the CEO with experience at a YC startup doing product marketing & customer success as their first hire. I went to pitch angels & VCs, and they’re all interested but want me to find a technical cofounder first. 👉 Where can I find one? I’ve already tried YC matchmaking, developer Discord channels and Twitter searches. 👉 And how do I ask given I cannot provide a salary until we raise seed? Investors are quite literally on standby and we have hundreds more to reach out to. Equity would likely be split 33/33/33 even though we already have MVP. #tech #startup #cto #founder
Damn, that's tempting, but I need to chill for a while How'd you get the MVP done, if you don't mind me asking? I haven't had any luck hiring people to do basic app stuff, so I keep having to code all my side projects on my own Drop me a line at planes.02sure @ icloud, maybe I can come in as one of your early code monkeys in six months and get a tiny sliver of the pie
What's the monetization plan? Ads? Few thousand core community is red flag, you need 10k+ with a room to scale to 100k. The field is overly saturated: gamingbuddy.gg, lfgdating.com and more — it is curse and boon (there is market). From a technology perspective, nothing really exciting speaks up. Just yet another mobile/web/electron app, maaaybe with some integration with discord/steam/appstore/playstore. It could be useful with catalog of games, event calendar (in-game promo) and using build/loadout for matching (that f..king crests from d4), with some toxic and skill level filter to create balanced party to compete or casually play few sessions. There is potentially interesting challenges, but given the financial part — there will be no budget to do deep research, but to slap some generic LLM/openAPI and do promt engineering. PS Equity split is unreasonable. Either you should take more or you should give up your slice to other partners, if you are expecting them to fill major gaps.

So discord?
Nope. Not trying to compete with discord. Check out apps like teams.gg and plink.gg. Those would b our top competitors. More of an improved version of a Discord LFG channel.
