Hello guys, I was offered a contract role as Test Automation Engineer at Lucid Motors with a salary of 112k, as the title says is it a good salary to have savings at the end of the month? I will be moving from Ohio to California and there change in rent alone scares me without including the gas and transportation. I also do not have a car right now and if I move to CA can I survive on public transportation? Can anyone help me showcase a real picture of what I would be spending on more and will I be saving anything? FYI I am looking at homes in a 3b or 5b town homes. Anyone in the auto industry, please tell me if I can eventually move to a Software/control development role in ADAS from test automation? Is the transition much easier from HIL test engineer? No, you'll need a car in Newark. Also this is fine if you're single, but poverty level as mentioned if you're supporting a family. (Since you mention 3 or 5br houses)
Not supporting a family, I am single and looking for 1b in a 3b or 5b to make my rent lower.
It’s going to be a struggle
You can survive in a shared accommodation. Still need a car. There's public transportation to Lucid area, but it takes time. The area is nice, but expensive
No, it is not a good salary, I was getting $120k 13 years ago and even than it was very average salary. If you are ok to live with roommates, you will survivor, but not more than that
I am okay to live with roommates, even with roommates I feel the rent is high. How much do I need to get for a comfortable living?
I would say 150k.
5b? Bruh… what’s your tc now
A 5br house in Ohio is probably 2500/mo
Sorry for confusion, I am looking for shared accomodations. Would be renting 1b in a 3b or 5b.
Arent they filing for bankruptcy soon
Don't know, but they recently opened another plant in Casa Grande, AZ. What is the indication of bankruptcy?
Many online rumours. Search on blind, there was a detailed post here last week
You’ll be living close to paycheck to paycheck based on that comp. If you live with roommates then you might be able to save. Plus, it’s a contract role. Salaries have cooled off significantly, but rent is still high. Personally, I wouldn’t take it. I live about 30 min. From Newark. 3-5 bedroom will run about $4,200 per month. Your monthly take home after taxes will be around $6,500 that’s before any other expenses like healthcare.
Don't.
It’s a good enough salary to live, if you are good at keeping you expenses low, you can save some money as well, but if you’re hoping to settle in the Bay Area like buying a place, then it could be a challenge. Also, be careful where you live in East Bay, some spots have high crime rate.
