I’m getting an offer from a tier 2 company for an engineering manager position in San Francisco. I’m currently a tech lead and they’re wiling to get me in as a new EM for one of their teams. YOE 12. Current base salary is $160k in south bay. They are offering me $180k base salary in SF city. I explicitly didn’t mention stocks/bonuses just to focus on base salary here. Is it low or average for EM level 1 in the city? Edit: stocks are $200k 4y, sign in is $50k Thanks!
It is fair. It doesn’t mean you can’t get more. At the end, it is difficult to say now knowing the company, size and equity.
Stocks are a major component of your salary, why not care about them?
I’ve edited my post with TC details
What is considered tier 2?
I’d say not a faang, not a bad company either. To me, Yelp would be a tier 2 for example. Salesforce, Uber, Lyft, dropbox, etc. It’s pretty vague but it’s just the way I personally see it, a lot of people would disagree. A tier 3 would be ibm, hp, walmart, macy’s, oracle, etc.
lol uber, lyft, dropbox aren't tier 2
Decent
Doesn’t sound like you have any options. Just take it

No, that isn’t low if the stocks are high enough that the TC is decent
