Really want to get my TC up to start saving significantly for a down payment on a home/condo. $200k would allow me to do so. Is this even attainable with 3 YOE as PM? Would rather have $200k base and like $220k TC than $140k base and $275k TC. Just finished my MBA as well, not sure if it means anything but figure it checks a box. NYC, YOE: 3 (25 yo) TC: 170k #pm #product #productmanager #productmanagement #google #meta #facebook #Amazon #apple #uber #lyft #netflix #microsoft
Sounds like you need to go back to school if you would rather have $220k TC rather than a $275k TC.
I’d rather have cash now as it aligns closer to my life goals at the moment 🤷♂️
Just instantly cash your stock? Treat it as cash . Doesn’t take an MBA to figure to figure out it’s more money
Disney streaming pays well and had a mass exodus of workforce. Should be close to $200k salary.
didn’t they just have a blowout quarter? what drove the exodus?
No way, Disney low balls PM’s
So companies want to know why they should pay you above market rate. What can you bring that other people cant
Bad financial sense for one
You new to the game? Overpromise and underdeliver baby
Possible? Yes. Likely? No. You’ll need around L5 for FAANG, which is not easy especially right now. Or you’ll need around director level for non FAANG to get that level of base.
staff level IC @ non-faang also fits the criteria in many places
Staff level PM? Never heard of PM being ranked like that. Staff is more for engineers.
Only place would be Netflix since they do all cash. Doubt they’d hire you though with 3 yoe, an average mba, and work history at MasterCard. My advice is to break into big tech first and try to work on something remotely relevant to Netflix’s tech stack (maybe AWS?) to make your resume more appealing
Can’t break into big tech when they are all frozen. Only hope right now is Amazon.
That’s why i suggested AWS which is not only hiring but is relevant experience for Netflix
Yes.
not likely
Tbh it’s a 95% no - it happens, but you’ll need L5/6 at FAANG types, sr lead / principle at the smaller ones. That’s not happening with your YOE
What’s your tc break down? Here’s mine: YoE 4 TC 320k, 180k, 40k sign on bonus/15%annual bonus, rest is stock
yes
There’s data out there for this. But also NYC hcol. Not the best place to save money unless you’re 4 roommates deep in bushwick. If you are then promptly gtfo 😜
I got lucky with a rent stabilized apartment and don’t have any plans to leave thankfully
Nice! To answer your original question I’d say it’s feasible given a higher level of seniority. But the tech shakeup might make it harder to climb the ladder.
